What Would I do Right After a Tick Bite?

Ticks sizeMy sister in law texted a few days ago. Her best friend had found an embedded tick and wanted to know what to do.

  • First things first. Use proper tick removal.  I use the kind of tick removal tool that gets under the tick and twists it off correctly. You can buy these on Amazon and at Walgreens. The brand I carry in my purse and at home is Trix. You want to make sure you get all the tick the first time.
  • Save the tick. Put it in a sealed jar or baggie to have the doctor test if necessary. Same goes for when you remove from a pet.
  • Clean the spot on your skin with peroxide. Wash thoroughly.
  • Put Purification oil (Young Living) on the wound multiple times per day for a few days until the redness, ache and swelling stop.
  • Increase your vitamin C intake daily to over 3000 grams (adult). Increase your Omega 3 intake and probiotic intake by 2-3 times normal. Increase your vitamin D intake by ten-fold over the next 2-3 days. These all strengthen and boost your own immune system, which is your first best defense against any bacteria or pathogen intruder that came through the tick.
  • Take detox baths. 2-4 cups Epsom Salt, 2-4 cups Hydrogen Peroxide in warm water and soak for 20 min daily. This also increases your immune response and helps your body get rid of invaders.
  • As a natural preventative measure, take a dropper three times a day for a week or so of Lymogen from Jernigan Nutraceuticals.  I keep this product on hand all the time in case of situations like this. If for any reason the tick bite transferred Lyme disease, this product will work better and faster at getting rid of it, than doxycycline. (in my humble opinion)
  • Go to your doctor with the tick to be tested and get tested yourself. (Best lab is IGenX) If you are comfortable, go ahead and do the 3 week doxycycline for prevention in addition to the things listed above.

So, what happens if you have an uneducated buffoon for a doctor that tells you that since you didn’t get a bulls-eye rash, there is no chance you have Lyme and won’t give you doxycycline?

Run. Run for the door and find a doctor who is more educated and will listen. Over 50% of those with Lyme did not ever get a bulls-eye rash. I think that number is more like over 70% because Lyme can come from mosquitoes, sexual transmission and in utero.

Take this disease seriously. The increase in our generation is far beyond what it was in the first few years of the AIDS scare and infects more each year than get breast cancer.

Happy Spring and Summer. Be smart, play hard and be ready to defend your body against invaders.

Blessings and healing,,
