Fortunately for us, this photo does not represent what happened to our car. It is an example of what we were spared of. The day before we left for vacation I noticed a new noise and what I described as a “shimmy” to my husband. The morning we were leaving, it was worse as I made a last minute dash to the grocery store. So disturbing to me that I actually laid on the driveway to look up under the car.
I have no idea what I, a non-mechanically inclined person, would have seen. But nevertheless, I laid there in the driveway to peer under the vehicle. Well, I didn’t see any shards of metal, any dead or live animals and nothing with a little arrow pointing “here is the problem”. But the noise and increasing shimmy bothered my husband too.
We went off to the shop to have it checked before leaving town. Well, when only two lugnuts are still in the tire and those two are loose, apparently that causes the car to make this terrible shimmy. I cannot begin to tell you how we thanked the Lord for sparing us the trauma and drama of our tire falling off while racing down the highway out of town.
As I pondered this phenomenen, it made me think back to describing symptoms in doctor offices over and over again. Looking at the doctor’s faces (which I’m sure all of you have) they were nodding but not listening. Ready to give me a perscription that would get me out of their office but not actually make me feel better permanently.
The whole tire story is to remind you to stick to it. Trust your gut. That feeling, that “shimmy”, that pain you really do feel and you will find a doctor who will listen and help. They are out there – rare, but they are. Be your own advocate because no one knows exactly what you feel and they are not nearly as concerned as they should be about your wellness and healing.
Journal your symptoms, do the research. If you don’t have the strength, find a family member or friend who would step in to be your advocate. It is imperative someone is willing to fight with you and help you get there to the right doctor and right treatment.
Pray for wisdom. If you have no one to be your advocate – Jesus is at the ready. I was flying blind in my healing process. Jesus alone was my advocate. He answered my prayers for wisdom at every step of the process. He opened door of opportunity for doctors and treatment. God will always answer this prayer for wisdom. That is the prayer I leave with you and pray over each of you from Ephesians 1:17-19
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.
