Cheers, Love

London. Regents Park, Queen Mary's GardensWhen I had the incredible priviledge to live across the pond for a year in college, I fell completely in love with the class and charm my English brothers and sisters can communicate – even in distress. In particular, I adore the way they could condescend me, an unruly young rebellious American, and do it so sweetly that I wouldn’t realize I had been told off until I walked away 20 minutes later.

“Excuse me, could you help me find the bathroom?” (Me – young naive American)

“You want to take a bath? The loo is right around the corner. Cheers, love” (Sarcastic Londoner barely tolerating me)

Its quite a skill in life to keep your composure, as the English are capable of doing despite being in the presence of Darth Vadar or any nemesis – “clueless Americans” included. The classic sweet delivery of a blow the English way with a smile would also commonly end with a “Cheers Love”. Who could leave upset with a goodbye so gentle and kind?

Living in London that year and taking walks in Queen Mary’s Rose Garden’s to my hearts content changed me. It was an escape, a growing period, a respite and it changed my very soul.

I pray that for you living through this Lyme or whatever challenge you have in life will change your very soul. Take some cues from our English friends and despite the obstacle – survive this with a kind word, a gentle tongue and leave all those who your encounter with a “cheers love”. Don’t be afraid of letting it change you.  I am a better person because of it. A richer person now that overcoming Lyme is part of my character.

Let it change you.

There is no better way to shock with world for Christ, than to love and think of others right in the depth of the pit of the trial. In the shadow of the mountain, give selflessness a good try. Give God the glory to bring you opportunities to touch others. Difficult to do? Yes. I didn’t do it perfectly, but when applied it transformed everything. It is uplifting to look outward.

Cheers, Love.
