I Am a Thought Millionaire

million dollareI Am a Thought Millionaire

A UCLA study showed that a typical human brain has 70,000 thoughts per day. That equates to:

  • 48 Thoughts per minute
  • 2880 Thoughts per hour
  • 25,500,000 Thoughts per year

I am rich; I am a thought millionaire.

Our bible study last night was discussing Mary, mother of Jesus and the scripture that says “Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” (Luke 2:19 NIV) Another version says that she “thought about them often.”

What were “these things” she was pondering? The miracles and provisions of God through the birth of her first born son, the Savior of the world.

She wasn’t pondering where their next meal was coming from, if Herod was going to kill them, if the donkey was going to make it to Egypt, if Jesus was really going to save the world, if they would have enough diapers, if Jesus would make the debate team, how big their house was going to be…..

What are we pondering? What makes up your 70,000 thoughts a day?

I don’t know about you, but I am a planner, a list maker. If I don’t get my mind off the hamster wheel, all it will do on automatic is make lists, make plans, make dinner, etc. My mind can think itself out of today straight into tomorrow until I realize I haven’t lived in today. I haven’t had a conscious positive thought and acted intentionally and accordingly.

A thought actually creates a chemical reaction in your body that causes emotional change. It can cause sadness, madness, gladness, peace, anger, laughter, etc. That emotional change then causes further chemical changes in the body that reach all your cells, organs and inner workings of your body.

Haven’t you ever had a belly laugh and that joy last you all the rest of the day? It’s like a giant vacuum sucking out all things evil and stressful out of your mind and soul.

Why do you think they say positive thinking actually can aid in healing? Why do children’s wards in hospitals have happy colors, visiting animals and singing? Because happy thoughts matter. Happy thoughts do something physical in our bodies.

Are you thoughts promoting wellness, providing prayer, meditation or praise?

The apostle Paul says “I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.” (Phil 4:8 The Message)

What are you reading, listening to, watching on TV? All things input can affect and alter your thoughts.

Jesus himself said the greatest command was to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind” Luke 10:27

Use your mind and don’t waste those precious thoughts. I know when you are sick, when you are chronically sick, and broke and sad and lonely and frustrated, it’s easy to ponder your situation as dire and focus there. But that just sets the stage for a ginormous pity party that can captivate your thoughts for hours – then you’ve spent 30,000 thoughts on what?

The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception. (Prov 14:8)

Keeping the mind focused on the positive amid destruction is vastly harder than one could imagine. It was the toughest part of my battle in chronic lyme. I had to play music or a movie that would direct my mind to a better place. I had to read scripture or books to lead my mind out of the pity party. And late at night, which was always the worst, I had to let the Lord direct my mind to others and pray pray pray so my mind wouldn’t consume with dread.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinth 10:5)

How are you going to spend your millions this year?

I am not just a thought millionaire, I am a positive thought millionaire.

Blessings,

Janice
