Things I Will Never Eat AGAIN

healthy-eating-photoI cheat on my diet, I admit it, but four years ago I never thought it possible. Four years ago in the height of my chronic Lyme disease battle for my life, I couldn’t even eat fresh eggs from the chickens in our backyard. My body would only tolerate organic medical food shakes (which kept me alive or months) and rice, fish or chicken (barely) and maybe some steamed vegetables. I wondered if I would ever eat a hamburger again, let alone, eat out at Chipotle or have a regular brownie someday.

Now, I can eat a piece of cake at a wedding. I can eat at a friend’s house not knowing what she has cooked with. My only precaution is to take a digestive enzyme before a mystery meal just to help my body digest.

For our everyday living, we are still Gluten Free, mostly Dairy Free and Soy Free with a few exceptions. We do goat and sheep cheese and rarely some organic cow cheese. Someone asked me one day, if I could add anything back into our diets, what would I add.

I would add back in CHEESE!!! All kinds of cheese. Every kind of cheese. I love cheese. But what I would never add back in…..

Sure, gluten would be the easiest to add back in, since wheat is a staple in our diet and everywhere. No way.

I thought after thinking about that question, I would share with you the things I will NEVER eat again or feed to my family no matter how healthy we are, no matter how great we are doing, no matter what!

Gluten. Do the math and read the studies. Wheat today is not what is used to be. The one piece of information alone that should have you screaming for the door is how they harvest modern day wheat. They douse it with a horrific amount of chemical to make the stalk die and burst forth the wheat bloom. Yuck, no thanks.

We have lived gluten free for about 10 years now, so why change up the recipes and live with that knowledge of chemical laden crap? No way.

Regular Cows Milk.

Did you know that if you fed our store bought cows milk to a calf, it would kill it? Seriously, enough said. I do not cook with cow’s milk, we do not drink it, I do not buy it. No way no how. If I wanted to, I would buy raw cow’s milk from a local dairy. When I can, that is the kind of butter I purchase. Otherwise, we stick to goat and sheep products in our home. Plus the molecule in goat’s milk is the closest to human breast milk on the planet. Cool to know.

Food dyes.

Dr. Feingold wrote a book called “Why is Your Child Hyperactive” detailing the history of these food dyes. It is fascinating – let me give you a synopsis. They were originally made as fabric dyes out of coal tar in the late 18th century. There were dozens of them. They flooded the food market with them at the turn of the century and it caused such rampant disease and death that they removed them all but 9. We are the only country left in the Westernized world that still allows them in food. They have been banned in EU, Japan, Canada, etc. So when you Kraft makes their Mac-N-Cheese for export, they omit the dye and use something plant based, but not so in the good ole US of A. We say “we love that yellow dye” bring it on.

Read Dr. Feingold’s research if you have any doubts about how evil food dyes are, visit with your local teachers the day after Halloween or Valentine’s Day at school. The kids are crazy and the teachers are about to pull out their hair. Its the dyes.

There is no way on the planet I am letting my kids eat those bright red icing topped cupcakes that kid brought to school. So sorry so bad, I’m saving you from cancer – move on.

Preservatives, MSG, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Artificial Flavors, Nitrates.

This is the other crap that is hiding in most processed food. I shop in the organic section for my processed food. I wish I loved cooking enough to Sally-Homemaker everything from scratch, but I don’t. So I make sure my crackers and cookies and pretzels don’t have preservatives with BHA or BHT or any other form of benzoate. That stuff makes my son crazy. Watch out by the way, lots of sunscreen and other trans-dermal products like lotions and liquid soaps will have dyes and preservatives in them.

News flash on the MSG – the words “natural flavors” or “autolyzed yeast extract” are the food industries new code words for MSG since the MSG got bad press. Did they take it out of any foods? No. Nope. Nit. They changed the names and keep shoving the cancer causing addictive eating MSG right into your system. Thanks a lot, but no thanks.

Nitrates are found in cured meats, but you can easily find lunch meat without them now in the grocery store deli (Boar’s Head) and also many types of bacon (Homeland and Ninan Ranch) that are uncured free of nitrates.

This doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your favorites foods, it just means you will be shopping in a different area of the store for them or ordering them online if you have no local resource. For instance, the granola you buy, you can find an organic substitute that doesn’t use HFCS or preservatives. The crackers or ice cream bars, same thing. If you cannot find them in the organic section of your grocery store, then go to a health food store and pay a bit more for a while or eat them less often. Super Target and Super WalMart in my home town have a surprising amount of organic options. Do your research. Order from Amazon Prime – you can do it!

GMO

You can forget it – I am not bringing any GMO food into our house ever. Its like the great tobacco trials in the 90’s. Someday, someone will be on trial for “approving” these foods into the foodchain. Potatoes, corn, tomatoes, rice, soy are almost entirely GMO in our grocery stores and as ingredients in foods. They are found in 80% of packaged goods in a store nowadays. AHHHHHH. Terrible. Buy organic and look for the Non-GMO label on your boxes.

You can do it guys – eliminate these from your houses and live better, stronger and healthier!!

Blessings and healing,
