Can I Ever Be Cured of Lyme Disease?

cure_lyme_disease_distressed_cube_mug-r07cdce10910841c6afa590da3f1bb3f4_x7jg5_8byvr_324This remains the question of the century for one fighting Lyme disease. A question I get asked all the time by other Lyme warriors and family and friends.

So, I will get out my culmination of knowledge and information from my doctors and research and put it together for you to have.

Let’s take what we know about the body and the immune system.

Can you be cured from chicken pox? Better yet, how do you get cured from chicken pox?

Well, when we were kids, our moms took us to “chicken pox” parties so we would get exposed and get it over with. Why don’t you get chicken pox every winter? Because after your body is exposed to the virus, it builds an immunity to it. The body figures out a “formula” if you will, that works to fight the virus. Once that immunity is learned by the body it never leaves. The chicken pox, no matter how many times you are exposed to it, will not come back. The body has the key to that lock and it won’t get sick from it again.

Now, I chose chicken pox for a reason. Then how do seniors get shingles later in life if the chicken pox is cured?

Well, the virus, although not active because the body has the immunity for it, never leaves the body. It remains dormant and  held “in-check”. The theory is that once you get older and your immune system gets weakened, the virus can re-activate.

The same is true for the flu, mono, herpes, etc. These viruses can possibly be in your body in a dormant state or held “in check” by a strong immune system. Once your immune system is weakened even slightly, then a virus or bug can take over.

So, what can weaken your immune system? Age, poor diet, addiction, high stress job, divorce, death of a loved one, move, new school or job, antibiotics, pharmaceuticals, lack of sleep, toxic exposure or mold exposure – etc. Over time, continued exposure to one or more of these stressors can weaken your immune system and allow a dormant virus or pathogen the opportunity to thrive.

The same is true in the case of Lyme disease and its co-infections. I believe quite strongly that many of us are carrying around dormant “bugs” from mosquito or tick bites and the body can keep them “in check” for awhile until a breaking point of stress. That breaking point can be physical, emotional or a combination.

In my case, having kids late into my thirties, my husband starting a new company, my kid’s ongoing healthy problems (that we discovered were Lyme from me), and toxic mold in the house – these were the perfect combination of things that allowed my system to be weak and the Lyme to finally take over.

One of my brilliant doctors said “I can’t cure a paper cut. No doctor can. But God designed your body to heal the papercut.” That analogy works with Lyme. The body can keep it in check. It can build the right and proper immunity to handle it, but along the way, we’ve damaged our bodies. Some of us may have genetic predispositions for detoxification problems. Some of us may have other issues that create the environment for disease to thrive like lower body temperature or thyroid issues. At any rate, those things can be propped up with the right support so the body can still do its thing.

So how do you get cured? The right doctor. Someone who isn’t just killing the bugs, but is strengthening your body to do the heavy lifting. Someone who is getting your body to its optimum position so that is can do what its supposed to. A doctor who will clean out your organs, work on detoxification and toward a healthy lifestyle so that there will be no regressions. A protocol that focuses on YOU and an individual plan for YOUR healing and what YOUR body needs. There is no one-sized-fits all in a Lyme disease protocol. Your unique body and unique circumstances require a unique approach to a cure.

Am I cured from Lyme? YES. Absolutely. But, just like a paper cut, I can injure myself and allow the opportunity for my body to fight off the same pathogen or a new one. I must take care of my body. I must not take my health for granted again. I cannot let myself get overloaded and have a terrible sleep cycle or poor diet.

I will do all I can now to not allow the same opportunity for disease to thrive. I use my BioMat to keep up my core body temperature (many people also use FIR saunas). I eat healthy. I sleep. I keep my “plate” clean and balance life with more caution.

But, I am cured from Lyme disease. It is possible for us all.

Blessings and healing,
