A Special Happy Mother’s Day (for those who are sick or for those with sick children)

sad-child07Parenting is not for the faint of heart. I always thought that meant because of the sheer exhaustion to repeat 20 times a day “do not put your sister in a headlock” or “do not eat yellow snow”. I always thought it meant that at some point your kids would not like you and you would have to watch them make a bad decision and face the consequences. I always thought that not rescuing them would be hard. I always thought it would be hard to watch them grow up and let them go. I always thought…..

Until I had chronically ill kids. Watching your kids suffer and not know the answers and not be able to fix it is the scariest abyss I have been tossed into. Knowing there is no hospital in the world that I could take them that would be able to help or heal or fix it, makes the bile rise up in my throat. Its like trying to drive in Dallas rush hour traffic with a blindfold on and your hands tied behind your back. Its sheer insanity. Its madness. Its beyond HARD.

This Mother’s Day I pay tribute to those moms who swim in the same frightening abyss for their children. The moms who will stop at nothing to find healing. The moms who would take it all if they could. The moms struggling to keep their marriage and their family afloat despite their circumstances. The moms who are managing doctor’s appointments, research on the internet, and are still baking cookies for the end of the year party. You rock.

This Mother’s Day I pay tribute to those moms who are sick themselves and trying to raise their children despite their own hurdles of health and obstacles to crawl over, literally. Those moms who are putting on a happy face to hide the terror of death they feel and the intense pain and exhaustion. Those moms who are still going to field day and field trips and going beyond their physical abilities to keep normal for their kids. You rock.

You are awesome. Not everyone knows how hard it is to do what you do, but I do. We are a pack, we are bonded, we are united to succeed. We will help heal and raise our children and by golly, they might even learn to chew with their mouth closed and pee into the toilet along the way as well.

I am so thankful to know so many of you. I celebrate you this day and every day and encourage you to go, go, go. Keep it up. You are doing fantastic. I wish I could take you all to lunch and throw a party. Wooo Hooo you are amazing.

Blessings and healing,
